Raw Honey Sydney and Benefits of Honey

Our Raw Honey is 100% pure, natural, rich and full flavoured produced in our apiary Sydney

Our raw honey is extracted from our beehives located in a private backyard bee garden in Bardwell Park, an inner west suburb of Sydney Australia, on the hill side of Bardwell Valley over looking Earlwood and Kingsgrove.  We call it Hand Made Honey because our honey and our bees are cared for and produced with human hands. We do not use pesticides, anti biotics or chemicals in our bee colonies. We control and prevent any problems or pests with natural remedies by using, for example, vegetable oil in pest traps instead of harsh man-made chemicals.

How is the Raw Honey Extracted

Our raw honey is extracted and spun by a centrifugal extractor, a little like the spin dryer of a washing machine. As the raw honey comb is placed in the extractor then spun it spreads out to the inner walls of the extractor and with the help of gravity the raw honey slowly finds its way down from the honey comb to a stainless steel vat before being poured into your jar.

Pure and Raw Honey, No Sugar Added

We do not feed our bees sugar water but our bees are happy and fat eating local pollen, nectar, and the raw honey they produce themselves. We always leave plenty of honey for the bees to feed on and we only take the surplus to bring to you.

Raw Honey is Not Pasteurised

Our honey is not pasteurised or heated and is 100% raw. We only strain the honey in a fine food grade stainless steel sieve that removes most of the impurities but because our honey is in it’s natural state it may contain traces of pollen and bees wax. This is totally natural and studies have proven that eating local raw honey containing traces of local pollen can aid in relief to those who may otherwise suffer allergies to pollen.
Make no mistake, our raw honey is totally natural, rich and full flavoured… the way nature intended it to bee.

Raw Honey Benefits

Honey has many benefits to our taste buds and to our health. We list some raw honey benefits here.

  • It tastes great and it’s a natural sweetener. In fact, raw honey is one of the oldest sweeteners on earth.
Honey contains many natural elements that can benefit our health like flavonoids and antioxidants which can help reduce the risk of heart disease and some cancers.
  • Raw honey is antimicrobial, antibacterial and anti-fungal. When bees produce honey, they add an enzyme that makes hydrogen peroxide.
Research has proven honey treatment help disorders such as ulcers and bacterial gastroenteritis. Many hospitals use honey high in active ingredients to heal burns, for example.
  • It’s believed ancient Olympic athletes would eat honey to boost their performance. This has now been supported by modern studies, proving that consuming honey is far superior in maintaining levels of glycogen and improving recovery time overall, more than any other sweetener.
Sipping a hot honey and lemon drink can reduce coughs and throat irritation. Try sipping it before going to bed and through the day to soothe your throat.
  • Honey can reduce allergy symptoms. Locally produced raw honey containing pollen gathered by the bees from local plants, introduces a small amount of allergen into your system when you consume the honey. This is believed to activate an individuals immune system and over time can build up natural immunity against the allergy. Try to take about a teaspoon of local raw honey each day. A good time to start doing this is a few months before the pollen season begins in your area. This will let your system to build up immunity to protect yourself. Remember the greatest benefit will be if you take raw local honey. Think about it, a good quality raw and local honey will contain local pollen from local plants that you may be allergic to. Honey from other parts of the country will not be as effective.

Storage Tips for Raw Honey

Raw honey is naturally antimicrobial and it is probably the only natural food that never expires. We suggest you store it at room temperature, that is under about 25 degrees centigrade in a cupboard or on a shelf out of direct sunlight. Sometimes superior quality honey can solidify but don’t worry this is a natural process of the sugars crystallizing. Some people actually prefer crystallized or even creamed honey but in case you want to liquefy it again it’s easy to do so. Just fill your kitchen sink with hot tap water and submerse your honey jar into the water. Make sure the jar’s lid is on tight or better still only fill the sink up to the level just below the jar’s lid. Leave the honey jar in the hot tap water for about 20 minutes or so. If the honey is still crystallised, you may need to repeat this process a few times but please do not put the honey into a microwave as it will destroy the honey’s raw and natural form.
